- This program is intended for use by Sysops just starting up a new Fido
- BBS. It will create the command line necessary to run Fido. It will create
- a file called TESTBBS.BAT in case you have one already called RUNBBS.BAT.
- The program is simple in nature, and is only to get you started. It will
- make all the necessary parameters except for the Outside command. If you
- already know about the Outside command and the errorlevels associated with
- it, you will not need this program.
-
- I will now attempt to define the prompts one by one to help you make your
- decisions while running this program.
-
- Prompt 1.
-
- Which port are you going to be hooking the modem up to? Fido needs to know.
- Just a simple 1 or 2 will suffice.
-
- Prompt 2.
-
- What is the maximum amount of time a User can have a day? A number between 1
- and 1440. 1440 is the max, as there is no more minutes in the day.
-
- Prompt 3.
-
- What is the first time callers time limit. Many sysops limit first time
- callers time limit, as they may be calling just to cause trouble, or to
- see if they are interested in the BBS. This number cannot be any bigger than
- the daily time limit.
-
- Prompt 4.
-
- This is for Fidonet. If you are not running a FidoNet, simply delete the /G
- command from the command line. If however you are using the Net, this command
- will stop trying to connect after so many calls.
-
- Prompt 5.
-
- Are you planning on running Fido while Multitasking? A simple Y or N will
- suffice.
-
- Prompt 6.
-
- What kind of modem do you have hooked to your computer. There a quite a few
- choices. If you do not have one listed, try to figure out what yours is
- closest to. If it is a Hayes compatible, try number 1, etc.
-
- Prompt 7.
-
- What is the maximum K a user can download in one day? This will stop users
- from downloading and downloading the whole time they are on. Some people
- only call to download. If you set this, maybe they will also look around
- through the message base and contribute there also.
-
- Prompt 8.
-
- What is the Normal User's time limit. This is how much time he has while
- logged in on ONE session. If he has time left over, he may call back and
- use the rest up.
-
- Prompt 9.
-
- Do you want this to be a Private system? If you have this command set, Fido
- will not let anyone on that is not in the user file.
-
- Prompt 10.
-
- Do you want first time users to be at disgrace level? If you want first time
- users to be at disgrace level, and have the rest of the BBS set up so that
- disgrace level people can only do certain things, like read messages and
- look at the files section, but not enter messages or download, etc, this is
- what this command is for. If you want to make your system semi-private to
- keep out trouble-makers.
-
- Prompt 11.
-
- This is how much time they have to logon. When the modem answers, the timer
- starts. This is so that someone can't tie up the line for an hour if they
- are auto-dialing and have walked away from there system. It will kick them
- off after the specified time limit, and let some one else call in.
-
- Prompt 12.
-
- File Transfer Display. This means, do you want Fido to display the blocks
- that is has sent, or not to send them to your screen. Fido will tell you
- when it has sent a block, or if you wish, you can turn the display off
- locally.
-
- Prompt 13.
-
- This is for the bit flag for Fido to tell what baud rate the call is coming
- in at. You have to have this. If you do not know what it is, the only ones
- possible are listed in the program. If one does not work for you, try another
- until you have figured it out. Most systems use 128, and is a good a place
- to start as any.
-
- Prompt 14.
-
- Do you want Fido to display pathname for subdirectories for file areas or
- message areas? This is up to you. If you take no, it will only show the
- dir.bbs file instead of the pathname to the area in question.
-
-
- Well, this is meant to get you on your way. Hope it helps.
